If possible, get a cot so you aren’t sleeping on the ground
Put an extra blanket under your sleeping bag (the ground is VERY cold)
If you feel dizzy or tired, REST, it might be the onset of heat stroke – take off helmets/hats and open heavy/thicker garments
Alcohol drinkers: drink equivalent amounts of water! And please don’t pass out outside in the cold, hypothermia is extremely dangerous
Try to make some friends! The SCA has a myriad of personality types and interests, you may find someone who likes the same things as you!
Ask – activities will usually have spare equipment and people who will share knowledge with you
You are under no obligation to have fun. But it is encouraged
Personal food snacks are recommended
If you won’t be keeping your bag inside the tent (or if there will be ground directly under it), bring a tarp to wrap your bag in so that it doesn’t get wet. If you’re not sure, bring the tarp anyway. They are very useful.
Don’t worry about your garb too much. The SCA only asks for an attempt at pre-1600 clothing.
If you are missing something, ask around before the event. People are often willing to share or help you find what you need.
For Fighters:
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ARMOUR OUTSIDE, the damp and dew will cause it to rust or give it a weird yellowish coating that will have to be buffed out
Check your gear before you go to events, people do not tend to bring anvils with them, so fixing it might be impossible
Bring duct tape
Don’t forget to bring these:
Hand sanitiser
Portable charger
Plastic bags for dirty clothes
Feast kit (including tea towel)
Print out of A&S timetable
Cloth carry bag / basket – to hold your things in as you walk around
Hat (Straw hats are good, also a hat is better than no hat)
